Do Dough: Take out a pen and your calendar. Draw a circle on Friday, June 3rd. Now draw a smaller circle within that circle (optional: draw sprinkles). You have now mentally prepared yourself for National Donut Day!

Don’t Donut: Whether you like your pink box filled with donuts of the cream-filled, chocolate-covered, or bacon-topped variety, don’t miss out on this opportunity to celebrate our circular friend.

While any day is a good day to treat yo’self to some donuts – especially on a Friday – if you eat them on National Donut Day, it feels downright patriotic, so we’ve rounded up our favorite local donut shops with you in mind. Grab one for yourself, snag a baker’s dozen for the office, or procure a little now-and-later situation with Saturday-morning coffee in mind. You could even visit all four spots on our Scout Route for a real hole-in-one.

The traditional, mostly: plain glazed, maple bar, and chocolate bar

What’s your favorite donut?
Blueberry cake … or anything topped with whipped cream!

What sets your shop apart (in terms of your philosophy, or flavor choices, or technique)?
We’ve been open over twenty years, and we’re a family business. We are in such a nice neighborhood with such nice customers; we are really blessed. Lots of regulars, too, who come in for a coffee and donut every day. Because of our hours, we get to serve people who work the night shift because not too many businesses are open then. We figure if we’re up baking in the kitchen, you should be able to come in and get donuts.

How much does a dozen donuts cost (or what is the price range for individual donuts)?
About $10 if there are no fancy donuts in the mix

What kind of coffee do you serve?
Terranoea coffee

Any tips for our readers?
You can call ahead and reserve your favorite flavor or check to see if we still have it.

What are your top three best-selling donuts?
We are known for our donut classics: old fashioned chocolate, glazed raised and our double blueberry cake (a farmers market favorite). As of late, our doissants — aka cronuts — have been making a come back from years back.

What’s your favorite donut?
(My) personal favorite is the French crueler, lightly glazed. I can eat 3 of those in one sitting.

What sets your shop apart (in terms of your philosophy, or flavor choices, or technique)?
We strive for quality, fresh ingredients, and establishing new creations daily. We believe in keeping the classic flavors of donuts, and every once in a while we think outside the box to bring something fun and innovative to satisfy sweet cravings. We’re constantly thinking (& dreaming) of donuts and how we can bring the best quality tasting donuts to the city of Sacramento.

How much does a dozen donuts cost (or what is the price range for individual donuts)?
$9-$13/dozen depending on donut variety

What kind of coffee do you serve?
We currently serve Moschetti coffee and Stumptown cold brew. Temple and other local coffee roasters is what we are seeking to serve on the trailer.

Planning anything in particular for National Donut Day?
We are having a big party in honor of National Donut Day! After all, it is the biggest holiday of the year. We will be having giveaways all day starting with free donut holes all day (while supplies last), ranging in all flavors: glaze, cinnamon sugar, crumb, chocolate. We will be giving out a free dozen donuts and our t-shirts on the hour. From 11-1, we will be hosting a craft/game area for kids (and adults too): decorate your own donut balloon and donut piñata with prizes. We will have a donation jar and encourage people to donate to the Salvation Army, who started the donut day tradition back during WWI.

What are your top three best-selling donuts?
Our best selling donuts would have to be our croissant donuts, mainly maple bacon or the red velvet flavor (we have over a dozen croissant donut flavors). The Reese’s stuffed donut is also another top selling item. It has the Reese’s candy inside, topped with peanuts, chocolate chips, and peanut butter drizzle. Last, is our Blue Hippo which is our oreo mint donut.

What’s your favorite donut?
My favorite donut would have to be the Reese’s stuffed donut. Fluffy with the right amount of sweetness.

What sets your shop apart (in terms of your philosophy, or flavor choices, or technique)?
All of the donut shops in Sacramento buy their flour from the same distributor. What makes us different is that we mastered the technique of keeping our donuts fresh, fluffy, and delicious. I create the donuts to separate us from other shops; my key component is color and flavor. Color will attract people visually, and we create unique flavors such as ube, thai tea, guava, and white chocolate that do the same. I try to create flavors that no shops in Sacramento have so people know to visit our spot for specialty donuts.

How much does a dozen donuts cost (or what is the price range for individual donuts)?
Our prices for a dozen vary. If you want a regular dozen consisting of typical raised, cake, and old fashioned, it’s $8.50.
A mixed dozen is $10 which includes bars, jelly, and french cruller.
Our specialty dozen range from $18-$24 (Reese’s stuffed, cereal donuts, Blue Hippo)
A dozen croissant donuts is $42. If you check-in on Yelp, you get $6 off so it is $36.

What kind of coffee do you serve?
We serve Java City coffee.

Any tips for our readers?
We recommend calling in advance to reserve your donuts. Weekdays, you can call the day of;on weekends, call a day in advance. We sell out fast during the weekend and want to make sure you get what you want, so the best thing to do is place an order in advance. Also, we make customized donuts. We can make giant letters and numbers for special occasions.

What are your top three best-selling donuts?
We only offer three types of donuts; chocolate, maple, and cinnamon sugar. Sometimes when we’re in the mood, we make donut holes instead of donuts.

What’s your favorite donut?
I make all the donuts and my favorite is definitely cinnamon sugar. That flavor allows you to taste the true flavor in the donut ingredients.

What sets your shop apart (in terms of your philosophy, or flavor choices, or technique)?
We’re Sacramento’s only dedicated gluten and dairy-free bakery. Do we need to be any more unique?

How much does a dozen donuts cost (or what is the price range for individual donuts)?
All donuts are $1.99, donut holes are $1.49

What kind of coffee do you serve?
Temple, black. None of the fancy stuff. Not even iced.
